After I showed her the difference in wifi speed between the garage and her living room she understood exactly what the issue was. For this home, being relatively small, the best solution for her circumstances was to run a data cable from the garage to the kitchen (centre of her home) and install the modem / wifi transmitter here, leaving the NBN box in the garage but having it directly feed into the middle of the home. This solved her Foxtel issue and provided much better coverage for the living areas of her home.
